Update: Maselli Sentenced To 27 Months For Bank Fraud

Former state Sen. Christopher Maselli faced up to 240 years in prison.

Former State Sen. Christopher Maselli was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 27 months after admitting his guilt to federal bank fraud charges. Maselli previously admitted to obtaining $1.7 million in fraudulent loans.

Maselli pleaded guilty in November to eight counts of providing false information to banks between 2007 and 2009 in order to secure loans on a car, several mortgages, and home improvements. He also admitted to having his wife's grandmother serve as a straw borrower for one home.

Last week, Maselli petitioned the court to impose a one-day sentence, with five years suspended and eight months' home confinement. He told the court that the loans are current and noted that he gave up his law license and former state Senate seat. Under federal sentencing guidelines, Maselli could face up to 30 years for each charge.
