Johnston Crash Leaves Fall River Man Dead, Providence Woman Injured
Rhode Island State Police said the Providence woman remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
JOHNSTON, RI — A man from Fall River, Massachusetts, died in a roll-over crash Sunday in Johnston after being ejected from their car, according to Rhode Island State Police.
State police said the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on the off-ramp to Killingly Street from Route 6 eastbound.
According to state police, Jimmie Pemberton, 49, was speeding while driving a BMW sedan and lost control on the off-ramp. The BMW entered a grass embankment and then traveled 250 feet down the embankment

Then, Pemberton steered left, attempting to correct back towards the highway, which caused the BMW to roll over on its passenger side, state police said. The BMW rolled down the embankment before striking the ground with the passenger side front fender.
The BMW then rolled over on the passenger side hood one complete revolution, cleared the on-ramp from Killingly Street to Route 6 east, and came to rest on its tires, facing east in the woods. State police said Pemberton was ejected. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt, according to state police.

The front-seat passenger, the only other occupant, was extricated from the vehicle by the Johnston Fire Department.
Pemberton was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The passenger, a Providence woman, was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries. State police said she remains in critical condition.
