Johnston Woman Charged With Robbing Former Boss: State Police
A Johnston woman stole almost $300,000 from a Warwick business where she was the office manager, state police said.

JOHNSTON, RI—Monica Furtado, 34, of Johnston, used to manage the office at a Warwick business. State police allege Wednesday she used her position to forge the company's checks and send the money to her own trucking firm, Bella Transport. She is accused of stealing about $287,000 from her former boss.
The company president notified state police last July, and an investigation was started.
"Troopers from the Wickford Barracks and the Financial Crimes Unit later identified nearly 350 separate unauthorized checks and/or withdrawals totaling $286,729.85 in 20 different accounts in Monica Furtado’s name and that of her company," state police said.
