Junior LL Regionals: Johnston Blanks Maine, 10-0, to Stay Alive

The local team racked up five runs in the first three innings Monday afternoon on the way to the victory.

 

Facing elimination from the Junior Little League East Regionals, Johnston's jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and didn't look back on the way to a 10-0 shutout of Bangor, ME, on Monday in Freehold, NJ.

The local team is scheduled to play Howell South, NJ, today at 4 pm for the right to play Oxford, MA, or Dunbar, PA, tomorrow to advance in the consolation round.

Jacob Podmaska, Nick Raposo, and Armani Henderson held the Maine team scoreless as Johnston tacked on three more scores in the fourth and two in the fifth to lead officials to call the game under the league 10-run rule.

Michael Caparco notched the first run for Johnston in the top of the first on a Korey Fijal sacrifice fly, and Henderson moved the local team to 2-0 on Raposo's walk.

Corey Mabray added a run in the second on a John Willette single, and Mabray and Raposo teamed up to extend the Johnston lead to 5-0 in the third.

Fijal, Jordan Gilheeney, and Raposo tallied runs in the fourth, and Henderson and Marc Conte closed out the scoring for Johnston in the fifth.
