
Mary-Alicia B. (McDermott) Varone, 86, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at in Johnston surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent “Big Jim” Varone.
Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Alicia B. (Gibbons) McDermott.

Mary was co-owner of the former Big Jim’s Diner on Chalkstone Avenue in Providence for 17 years before retiring in 1987.
She was the devoted mother of Louis M. Varone and his companion Linda Ciccone, both of Cranston; and James P. Varone and his wife, Elaine, of Johnston; former mother-in-law of Susan Varone of Cranston; loving grandmother of James and his wife, Kimberly; Heather and her husband Joshua; Nicholas, Michael, Elyse and John; loving great-grandmother of Amia; and dear sister of the late Thomas McDermott and Peter McDermott.

Funeral from the Nardolillo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Tuesday at 9 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann’s Church, 1493 Cranston St., Cranston at 10 am. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
Visiting hours are Tuesday morning from 8 to 9 am.
