Rhode Island Named "Most Romantic State in America"

MyFitnessPal used data from its members to determine that Rhode Islanders reported having the most champagne, chocolate and sex.

Rhode Islanders as of late have become weary of hearing about yet another list of the best and worst states to do business or whatever else. Mainly because we usually end up at the bottom.

Perhaps we’ve been consoling ourselves with champagne, chocolate and sex, according to a new ranking of the 10 most romantic states in the country.

MyFitnessPal said its members from the Ocean State using the company’s calorie-counting application exhibited more romantic traits than anybody else, based on an analysis of how many times they logged eating chocolate, drinking champagne or having sex.

The company tracked that data and combined it all into what they call a “romance index” to see which states showed the most love. A total of three billion foods were logged by members in 2014. The sexual activity data was calculated based on percent of exercise minutes logged.

Rhode Island members apparently didn’t spend as much time drinking champagne as the other categories. According to the data, while Rhode Island members had their fair share of the bubbly, the state fell towards the middle of the pack. The scores for sex, however, were second only to Arkansas (really?) and we finished seventh in terms of chocolate.

“MyFitnessPal” notes that ”Suspiciously, a larger percentage of men’s exercise minutes are logged as sex than women’s—a non-trivial 22% more, in fact.”

“Something doesn’t add up here,” the report states. “You may be overstating the facts, gentlemen.”

Women did report drinking a lot more champagne than men, however. Twice as much.

What are the least romantic states? It might be a surprise, but Hawaii came in at No. 48, followed by Nebraska and Wyoming.
