What's Open & Closed On Victory Day In Rhode Island

Monday, August 14 is Victory Day, a state holiday in Rhode Island. But it's not a federal holiday, so there will be mail delivery.

JOHNSTON, RI — Monday, August 14 is Victory Day, a state holiday in Rhode Island. The Ocean State is the only state that still celebrates Victory over Japan in World War II. The senior centers will be closed, along with public libraries, and municipal offices, including Town and City halls. Meals on Wheels also will be closed.

Trolley and regular buses run by the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will operate on a Sunday/Holiday service schedule. But Flex Services will not be available, except for Route 210 (Kingston Flex Service) which will run on the holiday schedule. According to RIPTA's website, the statewide RIde Program will operate only ADA trips. The Flex Service reservation line (1-877-906-FLEX) and the RIde reservation line (461-9760) will not be staffed on Monday. Regular service for both RIde and Flex will resume on Tuesday, August 15. Also, Kennedy Plaza RIPTA offices, including the Photo Identification and Ticket Sales Offices in the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center, will be closed on Monday.

The holiday is not a recognized national holiday, so federal offices, including U.S. Postal Mail Service, will be open.
