MPD: Man Arrested After Cab Allegedly Shorted $3

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

  • Lester Vanover, 35, of 41 Sunset Lane was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 31 around 1:56 in the morning on charges of obtaining vehicles with intent to defraud.    Police said he took a cab from Brewskis to Oxbow Farms, but when he arrived he did not have the money to pay his $10 fare.   The cab driver told police Vanover became verbally abusive and thought the situation was funny.  When police arrived, Vanover found $7, still $3 short. His passenger looked inside her house and he made phone calls, but they could not find $3.

  • Thomas Calhoun, 25, of 160 Broadway Apt. 2,  Newport, was arrested on Wednesday Jan. 30 around 9:50 p.m. on charges of  driving without a license and possession of a weapon other than a firearm.  Police pulled Calhoun over after he made a sharp turn on Sherman Lane without signaling, said police.  A routine search revealed Calhoun’s license was suspended and an inventory of the car turned up a kitchen knife that he kept for protection, said police.


  • Kristin Pierini, 45, of 139 West View Rd., was arrested on Wednesday Jan. 30 on charges of driving under the influence.  She was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test and two driving violations. 

  • Phillip Gray, 45, of 24 Tilden Ave., was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 30 on charges of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.  He was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test.  Police were dispatched to 14 Woolsey Road for a report of an unwanted party knocking on the door.  Police watched Gray pull out of the driveway and said he drove erratically.  Gray reportedly said he was coming from his girlfriend’s house. He failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested.
