Area Parades, Events on Veterans Day

The annual parade starts on Holly Street and ends at Saugatucket Park in South Kingstown.

The American Legion Post 39 and the town of South Kingstown will sponsor this year's South Kingstown Veterans Day Parade.  This parade typically features organizations from Narragansett as well.

The parade route will begin on Holly Street, taking a right on Main Street to High Street and finishing at Saugatucket Park.

Frank Earnshaw, commander of VFW 916, will serve as the parade's Grand Marshall.  You will also enjoy seeing marching bands, elected officials, community organizations, Veterans organizations and several public safety agencies. 

Immediately following the parade, the Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony will be conducted at the Saugatucket Park.  This will take place at about 11 a.m.

The Master of Ceremonies for this event will be Colonel James Halderman, USMC (ret.) and the guest speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel John McDonough, USMC.  There will also be musical performances by the South Kingstown High School and the Chariho High School marching bands. 

In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be cancelled and the ceremony will be conducted at the South Kingstown High School at 10 a.m. Please contact the Neighborhood Guild  after 8 a.m. at 789-9301 for all scheduling updates on the day of the parade.

Veterans Day on Patch

  • Finally, the Narragansett High girls' soccer team plays Burriville at Gaudet Middle School in Middletown today at 4 p.m. The time of the game was changed from noon. Patch will be providing live coverage. The Mariners are the sole local high school playoff team still playing, and if they win today, they will move to the Division III finals 5 p.m. Sunday at Rhode Island College.
