Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman Injured Off Montauk

The injured man was on the fishing boat 'Reaper,' which is from Point Judith.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — The Coast Guard sent a Jayhawk helicopter on Monday night to rescue a fisherman working on a Point Judith boat. The 25-year old man had an apparent seizure and then hit his head when he fell. The incident happened 80 miles southeast of Montauk (Long Island), New York. The captain of the "Reaper" reported the emergency around 11 p.m.

Air Station Cape Cod sent the helicopter and crew, as well as a plane and another crew. The Jayhawk arrived at 1:30 p.m., lifted the injured man from the boat and flew him to T.F. Green Airport. Medics there took him to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition is unknown.

The "Reaper" is a 45-foot boat based in Point Judith, the Coast Guard said.
