Community to Hold Remembrance Tribute For Narragansett Murder Victim

A love offering and potluck dinner, complete with performances by community gospel choir Prism of Praise, will be held Saturday night in memory of Narragansett resident Allison Taylor.

Community members in Narragansett have organized a tribute, scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, August 3, to remember Allison Taylor, a 65-year-old Narragansett woman, who was tragically killed by her son on May 7 in her Caswell Street apartment.

Members of the Prism of Praise Community Gospel Choir, an acclaimed gospel group based in Providence, will perform music ministry during a love offering at St. Peter's by the Sea (72 Central St., Narragansett) in her memory. The event will also be attended by members of St. Peter's parish, to honor the relationship that existed between Taylor and the church, as well as her involvement in the Saint Peter's Community Market, which delivers food and living essentials to more than 50 local families every Friday.

Prism of Praise member Katie Carlson reached out to Taylor's family following her death to express the group's desire to help them cope and provide any support that they needed.

“I hope it will offer her daughters some faith in humanity that people want to reach out to them and feel for them during their loss,” Carlson told The Narragansett Times. “We want them to know that if they needed anything and wanted to reach out to us, we would help in any way that we could.”

In the past, Prism of Praise has participated in other benefit concerts and charitable events with the goal of helping family, friends and community members cope with loss and express their feelings through their music.

Admission to Saturday's event is free, however choir members will be accepting donations to benefit the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence, an organization chosen by Taylor's family members not only for for its work spreading awareness about violence, but for the non-violent solutions to sensitive situations that are instilled in its clients.

The 6 p.m. ceremony is open to the public and will be followed by a potluck dinner hosted by the choir. Any potluck dishes will be gladly accepted. For more information, feel free to contact Katie Carlson at (401) 338.8525.
