A&W On Putnam Pike in Greenville helped two charities Monday - donating some of the day's proceeds to North Central Chamber's Scholarship Fund and hosting a stand for Surfer's Healing.
Visible and prominent was the stand set up by Surfer's Healing, which introduces autistic children to the thrill and soothing experience of partnered surfing.Â
Surfer's healing fund-raises all year to put together the $12,000 they need for their annual free day camp for autistic kids at Narragansett Town Beach, coming this year on Sept. 14.Â
A typical day at surf camp begins after children are checked in and fitted with life vests and wet suits that are provided to them through Surfer's Healing. Parents are asked to stay on the beach while volunteers work with the children. Apart from providing a great service, the organization makes it a stress-free one as well, allowing families to simply show up and have fun. Everything else, including food, is donated and provided to participants.
Surf camps fill quickly, in less than 24 hours when online registration opens and new surf camp registrations are given first priority. Donations can be made directly at www.surfershealing.org.
