Five Things, July 26: Blessing of the Fleet, Disaster Prep, and More
Today is Friday, July 26, 2013 and here are five things you should know about.

Disaster Preparedness Workshop: This morning from 8-9:30 a.m., the Center for Women & Enterprise will host a free workshop at the Southern RI Chamber of Commerce (230 Old Tower Hill Rd., Wakefield) that will focus on disaster preparedness for local businesses. Learn how to prepare your business for disaster, clean up afterwards and discover what you should know about business insurance before disaster strikes. Additional points to be discussed are different types of insurance coverage and what is actually covered, how to protect your employees and how to access resources that are available to you as an employer. Click here to register.Â
Blessing of the Fleet Road Race: More than 4,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair entrants will compete tonight in the 42nd Annual Blessing of the Fleet Road Race through historic Narragansett. If you haven't already, register today to take part in event voted "Best 10-Mile Road Race in New England" by New England Runners magazine. The race will begin at Narragansett High School at 5 p.m. for walkers, 5:45 p.m. for wheelchairs and 6 p.m. for runners, and will end at The Towers. Applications will be available at Narragansett Pier School on day of race. Registration fee is $35 for those not already registered before Friday, and includes an official Blessing of the Fleet t-shirt.
Energy Focus Group Wanted: The URI Outreach Center, in partnership with the State of RI Office of Energy Resources, will be conducting a series of focus groups to help update the RIEnergy.org website. The groups will meet at the URI Multicultural Center on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 2-3:30 p.m. or from 4-5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided for participants. Click here to register for either session by Monday, July 29. If you have questions, contact Michael Giles at michael_giles@my.uri.edu or call 401-874-4524.
