Five Things, June 27: Patch 2.0, Girl Rising Film Presentation and More

Good Morning! Here are five things you should know about for Thursday, June 27, 2013.

Brand Spanking New: Welcome to the new Narragansett-South Kingstown Patch! We hope you like our makeover! As you peruse the site, take a look at the improvements that have been made to features like the blogging platform and navigation tabs - all designed to streamline your Patch experience. Also, be sure to check out the new "Boards" feature where you can post announcements, events and classifieds, as well as start your own conversation with fellow  Narragansett or SK residents! Girl Rising: Head over to Entertainment Cinemas in South County Commons (30 Village Square Dr., Wakefield) tonight at 7:30 to check out "Girl Rising", an innovative feature film from Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins that focuses on the importance of education and how it can change a person, and the world. The movie spotlights girls like Sokha, a Cambodian orphan who works hard to become a star student and accomplished dancer, as well as several other unforgettable girls. Big Apple Circus: How about starting the kids' summer vacation off with a trip to the Big Apple Circus? In its 35th season, the Circus, held at Ninigret Park (4890 Old Post Rd., Charlestown), features clowns, horses, aerialists, jugglers, acrobats, a contortionist and more! There are two showtimes to choose from today, June 27, 12-2 p.m. or 7-9 p.m. Click here for more information!

Music at The Towers: Grab your sweetie or your pals and dance the night away from 7-10 p.m. tonight at The Towers (35 Ocean Rd., Narragansett)! Guests will enjoy a lively evening featuring live music from Coastline Swing Band, a traditional big band performing nostalgic hits from the '40s and '50s, as well as swing and Latin favorites perfect for dancing. Admission is $10 per person. 

SK Eco-Depot: If you have hazardous household waste sitting around your home, this weekend is the perfect time to get rid of it to ensure the health and safety of you, your family and your pets! On Saturday, June 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Town of South Kingstown will host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at the South Kingstown Town Hall (180 High Street, Wakefield). Click here for more information about the event and see the attached document for a list of accepted items and materials.
