Narragansett News Roundup: November 29 to December 12, 2010
A prominent local man passes away following a car accident in Connecticut, and a slew of other news from the past two weeks.
Although Patch strives to provide the most thorough news possible about Narragansett, we realize that other publications write stories about the town that might interest its residents. Here are some things you might have missed:
- According to The South County Independent, prominent Narragansett resident Charles P. Lee, 68, died in a car accident in Killingly, Conn., on Friday evening. According to The Norwich Bulletin, Lee's car drifted off the road.
- It created a stir in The Providence Journal online comments section when they devoted a story to a lavish Sweet 16 affair. Quoted in the story? Narragansett Division III championship soccer star and former . Her thoughts on turning 16? "I don't think it's that big a deal."
- Two Narragansett residents were in uniform for the outdoor hockey game with the most spectators ever – 113,411. The Providence Journal wrote about their fathers before the game.

- Anthony DeLuca, who was a barber in Narragansett for several years, passed away at the age of 93.
- Brendan Deegan, a Narragansett resident who graduated from Bishop Hendricken, is currently playing D-III basketball for Wheaton College of Massachusetts. The six-foot junior guard has started all seven games for Wheaton, and he is averaging 9.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Wheaton is 2-6.
- Providence Journal columnist Mark Patinkin caught up with former Rhode Island governor Joe Garrahy, shortly before his 80th birthday. The governor now lives in Narragansett near the Narrow River.
- The Providence Journal has a profile by G. Wayne Miller of Rev. Marcel Taillon, the pastor of St. Thomas More Parish. Taillon gave up a promising career at CVS in his 20s to become a priest.
- Two Narragansett residents, Sarah Taft-Carter and Brian Van Couyghen, were selected as Superior Court associate justices. The South County Independent followed up with profiles on both.
- Narragansett resident Josh Labossiere lost his MMA debut at the Snow Brawl.
- There were reports of cave swallows by birdwatchers on Ocean Road.
- Tom is traveling through the United States, and the other week, he made his way through Narragansett.
