Car of Intoxicated Couple Towed
At about 7:23 p.m. on Aug. 24, police received a report of an intoxicated couple at Narragansett Town Beach.
According to police, when they arrived, Angel Arel, 31, of 44 George St., North Providence, was lying in the sand and appeared to be heavily intoxicated. With her was Kirk D. Demers, 42, of 208 Prairie Ave., Providence, who also appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
Police said that they helped Arel to her feet, but she was only able to walk about 15 feet before falling face first into the sand again. An ambulance was called and transported her to South County Hospital.
According to police, when they first interviewed Demers, he told them that he had driven to the beach, which police confirmed with Arel. When police then spoke to Demers again, he told them that he had been dropped off.
Police said that they cleared the scene, but were called back shortly after by beach patrol units, who said that Demers had gotten into a white Corvette.
According to police, they confronted him before he drove the car. Noting his high level of intoxication, they called Certified Towing to remove the car so Demers couldn’t operate it.
Police noted that Demers has 28 previous arrests, and is a registered sex offender in Rhode Island. According to online records, Demers is a level-two offender and lives in Providence.
Arel has nine previous arrests, according to police.
