URI Student Arrested for Possession of Oxycodone
Anthony N. Scardapane, 19, of the Butterfield Dormitory at the University of Rhode Island, was arrested about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday on a felony charge of possession of a narcotic, Oxycodone. Reports noted that Scardapane is a native of New Jersey.

According to police, on Nov. 2 at 2:13 a.m., they clocked a car driven by Scardapane at 40 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone on Sand Hill Cove near Roger Williams Beach. As a result, they made a traffic stop.
Police said the car smelled of marijuana. Police asked Scardapane to exit the car, and noted that the breast pockets of Scardapane’s shirt looked full. They asked him what was in his pockets, at which point Scardapane said a pack of cigarettes and a napkin.

As Scardapane pulled both out to show police, police said several pills fell from the napkin. Police asked Scardapane what the pills were, and he said he couldn’t remember, but that he had a prescription for them from a Narragansett pharmacy.
Scardapane was issued a warning for the speeding violation at the time, and police said they would check with the pharmacy and test the pills. The pills were later identified as Oxycodone.
According to police, between Nov. 2 and Nov. 5, they called Scardapane several times and asked him to come to the station with his prescription, leaving voicemails with him. Police said he did not call back or come to police headquarters, and a warrant was drafted for his arrest on Nov. 9.
On Wednesday, Narragansett police met with University of Rhode Island police and informed them of the warrant. At that point, officers from the two departments went to Scardapane’s room in Butterfield Hall and arrested him without incident. He was arraigned later that day at Fourth Division District Court and released.
