Narragansett Police Log: January 31, February 1 and 2, 2011

A passenger in a car is arrested after police say he tried to conceal a bag of marijuana in the pocket of a car.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Passenger Arrested for Possession of Marijuana

Nathaniel T. Price, 20, of 900 Boston Neck Road, Apt. #4, Narragansett, was arrested about 4:20 p.m. on Feb. 1 on a charge of possession of marijuana. Police reports noted that he is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island.

According to police, they clocked a car driven by a 19-year-old Narragansett man at 59 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone on Point Judith Road and made a traffic stop. Police noted the smell of burnt marijuana, and the driver said he had smoked in his car an hour before, but did not have any marijuana now.

As one officer searched the driver, another officer said that he saw Price, a passenger in the car, slide something into a pocket on the passenger-side door. Police searched the pocket and found a small plastic bag of marijuana, and Price was placed under arrest.

The driver of the car did not have any marijuana on him, and a search of the car revealed no other marijuana. He was issued a citation for speeding and allowed to drive from the scene.

Coventry Man With Six Warrants Arrested During Traffic Stop

Bryan R. Wieczorek, 34, of 8 Lane Seven Apt. #132, Coventry, was arrested about 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 2 for six different district court warrants.

According to police, an officer on patrol saw Wieczorek in a car on Galilee Escape Road and knew that there were active warrants for his arrest. After a traffic stop and a background check to confirm his identity, he was arrested and transported to police headquarters, and then the ACI.

The warrants are for a variety of court charges, ranging from counterfeiting and forgery to leaving the scene of an accident to possession of a controlled substance. The charges are from Providence, Scituate, Warwick and West Greenwich police.

Narragansett Man Cited for Driving With Expired License

Zachary M. Bourassa, 23, of 12 Maple Ave., Narragansett, was cited about 12:50 a.m. on Feb. 2 for driving with an expired license.

According to police, an officer on patrol on Point Judith Road saw Bourassa’s car driving with a defective headlight. He made a traffic stop, and when he asked Bourassa for his license and registration, he said that Bourassa said he had recently lost his wallet.

The officer did a background check by using Bourassa’s social security number and date of birth, which revealed that his license had expired on Jan. 6. He was issued a citation for the expired license. A roommate of Bourassa with a valid license drove the car from the scene.

All Clear on Jan. 31

Police reported no arrests on Jan. 31.
