Narragansett Police Log: June 7 and 8, 2012

Narragansett police make three license stops, and a woman turns in a camera.

Providence Man Charged With Driving With Expired License

Manuel Perez, 29, of 107 Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence, was cited at about 9:10 p.m. on June 7 and charged with driving without a license.

According to police, an officer observing traffic on Bridgetown Road near Oxeye Trail clocked brown Infinity at 44 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on South Ferry Road near Boston Neck Road.

Police said a background check of the driver – Perez – revealed that his license expired in September 2009. Police noted that the car’s registration had also expired in February 2012.

Perez was cited for both offenses, and his car was towed from the scene. He was allowed to leave on foot.

Johnston Man Charged With Driving With Suspended License

Christopher M. Celani, 31, of 112 Peck Hill Road, Johnston, was cited at about 3:54 p.m. on June 8 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer saw a man – later identified as Celani – driving without a seatbelt on South Pier Road near Lakeside Drive. A traffic stop was made near Avice Street.

Police said a background check revealed that Celani’s license was suspended on April 11 for failing to appear at a court hearing. He was issued citations for the license and seat belt violations, and the registered owner of the car came to drive it from the scene.

Providence Man Charged With Driving With Suspended License

Sean C. Coleman, 24, of 231 Admiral St., Providence, was cited at about 2:24 a.m. on June 8 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer driving on Point Judith Road behind a car driven by Coleman noted that the exhaust was too loud. A traffic stop was made near Fisherman’s Memorial Campground.

Police said a background check revealed that Coleman’s license was suspended for failing to appear at a court hearing in July 2010.

Coleman was cited for the license violation, and he was warned about the loud muffler. Police noted that a passenger in the car also didn’t have a valid license, so the car was towed from the scene.

Good Samaritan of the Day – Kathleen Priest

According to police, Cranston resident Kathleen Priest turned in a small black bag to police that she found on the seawall at about 7:45 p.m. on June 8.

The bag contained a Coolpix camera and several items of clothing. Priest told police that she thought it belonged to several young girls who were hanging out at the seawall, and then forgot it.
