Narragansett Police Log: June 9, 2012

Police deal with arguments over State Street parking, and make two minor arrests.

South Kingstown Man Arrested on DWI Warrant

Lorenzo M. Smith, 27, of 5 School Lane, Apt. #A, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:16 a.m. on June 9.

Police said there was a Fourth Division District Court warrant out for Smith’s arrest for not appearing at a court hearing on June 1 related to a Narragansett police charge of driving while intoxicated.

According to police, while monitoring the nightly close of the Coast Guard House, they saw Smith. From past contacts with police, the officer thought he had a warrant out for his arrest, and confirmed this with a dispatcher.

Smith was arrested without incident. He could not produce $634.50 for bail, and he was transported to the ACI at 9 a.m.

North Kingstown Man Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor

Aaron Hazard, 20, of 55 Dayton Court, North Kingstown, was cited at about 11:36 p.m. on June 9 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Boston Neck Road saw a beige Nissan Maxima with a defective rear plate light. As a result, a traffic stop was made near Pettaquamscutt Lake Road.

Police said that while talking to Hazard and a passenger, the smell of marijuana was overwhelming. Hazard and the passenger denied that there was any in the car, and gave police permission to search it.

However, Hazard did tell police that a friend had given him a bottle of Ciroc vodka, which police confiscated. A search of the car was negative for marijuana.

Hazard was cited for transportation of alcohol by a minor. He was also warned for the malfunctioning plate light. He was allowed to drive from the scene.

Loud Parties

- At about 12:48 a.m. on June 9, police received a report of a loud party at 3 Shadbush Trail.

According to police, about 15 to 20 people were at the party, and there were several cars parked on the street. Police said the renter – Brandon C. Gilley, 28 – was cooperative, and the scene was cleared quickly.

- At about 11:08 p.m. on June 9, police received a report of a loud party at 60 Watson Avenue.

According to police, about 15 people were at the party, watching a Celtics game, with about five cars illegally parked in the roadway.

Police said the renters – Karaann Hartnett, 20, and Molly C. Wood, 21 – were cooperative and the scene was cleared quickly.

Developing Turf War Over State Street Parking

At about 4:42 p.m. on June 9, police received a complaint about threats in State Street parking lots.

Police said that according to an employee in one parking lot, she had been sworn at and approached by two employees in a competing parking lot. When police interviewed the two employees in the other parking lot, they told police that the other woman was the aggressor.

According to police, they advised the three people involved to stick to their own lots, and to avoid contact with one another. No arrests were made.
