Narragansett Police Log: September 1, 2012

Two Men Arrested After Fight Report

Following a reported fight near Memorial Square, Zachary M. Brown, 23, of 30 Kinney Ave., Narragansett, was arrested at about 1:27 a.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with assault and resisting arrest, and Brent J. Haverly, 22, of 72 Fawns Road, North Kingstown, was arrested at about 2:06 a.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with disorderly conduct.

According to police, they received a report at about 12:45 a.m. from a bouncer at the Coast Guard House that a man – later identified as Haverly – wanted to fight another man at the bar. Police said that when they approached Brown, he left the area on foot, and there was no issue at that time.

However, police said that at about 1:20 a.m., they were told that a fight was occurring near Memorial Square and Amalfi. Police said that when they responded to the area, they saw Haverly and another man, but no signs of a large fight.

According to police, they told Haverly to stop walking so that they could question him, at which point he allegedly ran from police. He was found about two hours later, in the rear driveway of a Central Street home, hiding by a car. He was arrested without incident at that time.

Police said that while interviewing people leaving Amalfi about Haverly’s whereabouts, Brown angrily approached one officer and immediately said, “Yo, what the **** do you want?”

According to police, Brown then shoved an officer in the chest, at which point police attempted to arrest him. Officers noted that Brown resisted throughout and kept yelling, “What the **** are you doing?” Police said that because Brown kept refusing to put his right arm behind his back, they punched him several times in the right armpit area.

Police noted that both Brown and Haverly smelled strongly of alcohol. Brown was processed and then released at about 4:27 a.m. Haverly was processed and then released at about 4:20 a.m.

Pawtucket Man Charged With License Violation

Joshua R. Case, 24, of 68 Benedict St., Pawtucket, was arrested at about 1:55 a.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road near Burnside Avenue saw Case’s vehicle swerving. A traffic stop was made near Clarke Road.

Police said that Case smelled of alcohol, and a background check revealed that his license was suspended. He was arrested for the license violation.

According to police, Case submitted to field sobriety tests, which he passed. He was processed at headquarters and then released at about 2:45 a.m. Police said his car was towed from the scene because of a suspended registration.

Providence Man Charged With License Violation

Ryan Boehmer, 28, of 14 Wisdom St., Apt. #3, Providence, was arrested at about 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 1 and charged with driving with a suspended license.

According to police, a caller told dispatch that at Camp Cronin, a man in a red Jeep had gotten out of the vehicle, hit the windshield of another car and yelled, “I’ll straighten you out!” The caller told police the man might have been drinking, and that the Jeep also had an open top and a dog inside of it.

Police said an officer monitoring traffic on Ocean Read near Point Judith Road saw a Jeep matching the description pass by his location. The officer said the Jeep was traveling 30 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone, but no other infractions were noted. A traffic stop was made near Hawthorne Avenue.

According to police, when asked about the incident, Boehmer denied hitting a windshield. He told police that he had spoken to a man sitting in a car with binoculars, because he thought the man might have been looking at children.

Police said that Boehmer showed no signs of intoxication. However, a background check revealed that his license was suspended. He was arrested without incident.

According to police, a passenger in the car appeared to be intoxicated, and she was not allowed to drive it from the scene. As a result, the Jeep was towed.

Boehmer was processed and then released at about 6:36 p.m.
