Narragansett Police Log: September 5, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the Narragansett Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

URI Student Charged With Drunken Driving

Andrew J. Paolucci, 22, of 10 Rolens Drive. Apt. #B3, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:17 a.m. on Sept. 5 and charged with drunken driving. Police said Paolucci is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, an officer traveling on Bridgetown Road clocked a dark-colored SUV approaching him at 40 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. The officer also noted the SUV swerving, and got another reading of 58 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone on Boston Neck Road.

A traffic stop was made on Pettaquamscutt Lake Road near Boston Neck Road as a result. Police noted that the driver – Paolucci – smelled of alcohol and had trouble answering questions.

According to police, Paolucci submitted to field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested at this point. An inventory of Paolucci’s car revealed a half-empty bottle of Admiral Nelson’s spiced rum.

Police said Paolucci consented to breath tests at headquarters, revealing blood alcohol levels of .198 at about 2:04 a.m. and .200 at about 2:06 a.m.

Paolucci was held for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court at 9 a.m. He was also cited for speeding, running a stop sign and other laned roadway violations. A passenger in his car walked home, and Paolucci’s car was towed from the scene.

Narragansett Woman Charged With Shoplifting

Lorie J. Lang, 47, of 115 Nepaug Road, Apt. #B, Narragansett, was arrested at about 7:16 p.m. on Sept. 5 and charged with shoplifting.

According to police, on Sept. 1 they responded to Roch’s Fresh Food on Boston Neck Road after receiving a report of shoplifting. Police said two witnesses and security footage revealed a woman – later identified as Lang – leaving the store, making no attempt to pay for $83.86 in groceries.

Police said that detectives recognized Lang from previous arrests, and as a result, a photo line-up from mugshots was created. Police said a witness positively identified Lang on Sept. 5.

At this point, police said they called Lang and informed her of the incident. She turned herself in at about 7:09 p.m. Police said she did not provide them with a witness statement.

Lang was processed and then released at about 7:40 p.m. A no-trespass order was also issued.

RIC Student Cited for Expired License, Speeding

Gian Carlo A. Rossi, 23, of 39 Lynde St., Providence, was cited at about 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 5 and charged with driving with an expired license. Police said Rossi is a student at Rhode Island College.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic near Jerry’s Hardware on Point Judith Road clocked a car driven by Rossi at 59 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made near Adventureland.

Police said a background check revealed that Rossi’s license was expired. He was cited for this violation, and for speeding. A friend drove the car and Rossi from the scene.
