Pier School Hoopsters Split Against Wickford
The girls almost pull off an upset despite missing their top wing, while the boys easily triumph.
An undermanned Narragansett Pier School girls' basketball team came close to a win Thursday afternoon, but ran out of gas against Wickford in the fourth quarter, losing 45-35.
Chelsea Sahagian led the Mariners (2-3) with 21 points, as it was the second-straight game that Abby McKanna missed because of injury. McKanna averaged 17 points per game in the Mariners' first three, even though she rolled her ankle midway through the game against Exeter-West Greenwich on Dec. 9.
However, Sahagian has stepped up in McKanna's absence, averaging 19 points per game. The eighth grade point guard is also averaging 6.8 free throw attempts per game.
