Man Electrocuted On Ledge Road

National Grid said a member of the public touched a wire. A 29-year-old man died, police said.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — National Grid says a member of the public touched one of their wires on Ledge Road on Tuesday afternoon. According to WJAR-TV, a 29-year-old man was electrocuted and has died. His name is not being released pending notification to family. Police continue to investigate the "incident" in South Kingstown, according to Fox News and WPRI-TV. Their report says the medical examiner is on scene, and several ambulances were seen there. Click here for the Channel 12 story.

According to National Grid, about 13 customers are without power. The website says they will be restored around 10 p.m.

"Earlier this evening our crews responded to an incident off Ledge Road where a member of the public had come into contact with one of our wires," Ted Kresse, spokesman for National Grid, said. "Upon arrival we immediately de-energized the local area so that first responders could provide assistance and ensure the public's safety. At this time we have no further details, but we'll continue to work with authorities as they investigate what happened."

Ledge Road is off Tower Hill Road (Route 1). It is an enclave of secluded mansion-like homes. Patch has contacted South Kingstown police for information.
