RICHMOND, RI -- Two New York women were stopped on Interstate 95 around 9 p.m. Friday for a traffic violation, but it's what police saw inside their car that's landed the duo in hot water. According to Laura Meade Kirk, spokeswoman for the state police, the two were carrying designer clothes, jewelry and perfume allegedly stolen from stores in Massachusetts. Police say the value is more than $20,000.

Karina Rojas and Angela Maria Perez, both 32, and both from of Corona, N.Y., now face these charges: Receiving Stolen Goods and Conspiracy.

"Rojas was ordered held on $20,000 surety bail, pending an appearance in Fourth Division District Court in Wakefield on Monday," state police said. "Perez was released after posting $3,000 surety bail, pending a future court appearance in Fourth Division District Court."

Police initially stopped them for a move-over violation in Richmond but then saw the allegedly stolen merchandise. The clothes, jewelry, perfume and cosmetics are believed to have come from these stores: Anthropologie, J. Crew, Bath & Body Works, Express and Athleta. Police say they also found "booster bags" lined with material such as aluminum foil to evade store detectors.
