South Kingstown Man Charged With Felony Possession for Pill

Gregory S. Buchanan, 23, of 90 Sand Plains Trail, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 3:16 a.m. on Aug. 18 and charged with felony drug possession, driving with a suspended license and driving while in possession of a controlled substance.

According to police, an officer saw Buchanan’s car driving on Ministerial Road, and believed it to be speeding. Police noted that as the officer tried to catch up with Buchanan’s car, he couldn’t get a radar reading, but the officer was traveling between 60 and 65 miles per hour.

Police said a traffic stop was made near Broad Hill Way. Police said the car smelled of alcohol and marijuana, and as a result, they asked Buchanan to consent to field sobriety tests.

According to police, Buchanan passed field sobriety tests. However, based on the smell of alcohol coming from the car, and Buchanan having a suspended license, a search was conducted.

Police said a search of the car revealed a Clonazepam, which Buchanan allegedly told them he got from a party earlier that night. An empty carton of beer was found, from which the smell was emanating.

Buchanan was processed and then transferred to the ACI at about 11 a.m.

Hope Valley Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Daniel J. Crossen, 29, of 174 Skunk Hill Road, Hope Valley, was arrested at about 1:42 a.m. on Aug. 18 and charged with drunken driving.

According to police, they received a report of a car swerving and cutting off other drivers on Route 1. A traffic stop of a matching vehicle was made near the Tower Hill Fire Station.

Police said that Crossen smelled of alcohol and answered their questions slowly. Police said that Crossen submitted to field sobriety tests, which he failed, and his blood alcohol content tests at .139 at 3:10 a.m. and .149 at 3:14 a.m.

Crossen was processed and then released at about 4:20 a.m.
