SK Police Log: August 22, 2012
A Providence College student is charged with drunken driving.

SK Man Charged With Domestic Disorderly Conduct
Joseph A. Douglas, 24, of 128 Pine Hill Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 2:42 a.m. on Aug. 22 and charged with domestic disorderly conduct.

According to police, a relative of Douglas called them to the home. She told police that Douglas came back from the Ocean Mist incredibly intoxicated.
After confirming with several other witnesses at the home that he was intoxicated and belligerent, Douglas was arrested without incident by police.

Douglas was held overnight for arraignment at Fourth Division District Court the morning of Aug. 22.
Rumford Man, Military Member Arrested for Suspended License
Rory M. Smith, 22, of 18 Derman St., Rumford, was arrested at about 2 a.m. on Aug. 22 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said Smith is a member of the military.
According to police, an officer noted a car swerving while on Route 1. A traffic stop was made near the Old Tower Hill Road overpass.
Police said that while the officer approached the car, he noted that the passenger and the driver switched seats. According to police, when they asked Smith why he had switched seats, he didn’t answer, and he also provided police with a military ID instead of a license.
According to police, a background check revealed that Smith’s license had been suspended in Sept. 2011 for failing to report an accident. He was arrested without incident, processed at headquarters and then released at about 3:05 a.m.
SKHS Student Arrested for Warrant
A 17-year-old South Kingstown boy was arrested at about 8:08 a.m. on Aug. 22. Police said a Sixth Division District Court warrant was out for his arrest, and identified him as a South Kingstown High School student.
According to police, at about 8 a.m. they responded to the boy’s home and knocked on the door. He answered, at which point he was arrested without incident.
Police noted that the boy’s mother was not home, and multiple attempts were made to contact her between 8 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. The boy told police she didn’t have a cell phone. He was scheduled for arraignment at Family Court at noon.
