SK Police Log: September 6 and 7, 2012

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Not That Drun – Westerly Man Charged With Drunken Driving

Paul E. Larson, 45, of 3 Emerald St., Westerly, was arrested at about 12:20 a.m. on Sept. 7 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, an officer traveling near the Vanilla Bean on Matunuck Beach Road saw a gray BMW swearing as he drove toward to Route 1. A traffic stop was made before the car reached Route 1.

Police said the driver – Larson – handed them his debit card when asked for his license and registration. Police noted that Larson smelled of alcohol, and had trouble answering basic questions.

According to police, Larson submitted to field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested at this point.

Police said that while being transported to headquarters, Larson asked why he was being arrested. When he was told drunken driving, police said Larson responded, “Dude, I’m not that drun, I mean, I’m not that drunk.”

According to police, Larson was unable to secure a ride from a friend. As a result, he was not released until about 4:07 a.m.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Domestic Vandalism, Domestic Disorderly Conduct

Connor Park, 20, of 1784 South Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 8:48 a.m. on Sept. 7 and charged with domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct.

According to police, at about 2:36 p.m. on Sept. 6, they received a report of Park kicking in the door to a family member’s home. When police arrived, Park had left.

The family member told police Park had been suffering from depression and substance abuse issues, and as a result, the family member had kicked Park out of the house for safety reasons.

Police said that while speaking with the victim and another witness, Park called the victim on the phone. Police said that they talked to Park, who refused to turn himself in.

However, police said that he was arrested without incident the next morning, when they did a residence check. He was processed and then released at about 10:30 a.m.

South Kingstown Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana

Branden James Stanciu, 21, of 179 Hunt Ave., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 11:25 a.m. on Sept. 6 and charged with possession of marijuana.

According to police, detectives received information from an informant that Stanciu was selling marijuana from his home. As a result, a search warrant was obtained for his home, after police monitored a controlled buy between Stanciu and the informant.

Police said the search was conducted at about 11 a.m. on Sept. 6. During the search, Stanciu told police he had a small baggie of marijuana for personal use on his dresser. Police found the marijuana, along with $240 cash.

Stanciu was arrested, processed at police headquarters and then released at about 2:20 p.m.

Smithfield Teen Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor

Luciana T. Albanese, 18, of 37 East Lantern Road, Smithfield, was cited at about 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 7 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic at the Kingston Hill Bookstore saw a silver sedan traveling at what he believed to be 40 to 45 miles per hour. A traffic stop was made on Route 138.

Police said the car smelled of alcohol, and a purple Solo cup with a liquid in it was clearly visible on the floor of the backseat. When police asked for the cup, they said it contained alcohol.

According to police, a search of the car revealed a glass pipe, a bag with trace amounts of marijuana, a Poland Spring bottle with alcohol, and a Connecticut driver’s license belonging to a 21-year-old.

A check of the license revealed it was a fake, and it was destroyed by police, along with the alcohol, marijuana and smoking pipe. Police noted that Albanese did not appear to be intoxicated and passed a field sobriety test, and she was only charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor.
