South Kingstown Firefighters Respond To 30 Calls During Storm
The Union Fire Department was called for assistance with flooded basements, pole fires, residents trapped on flooded roadways and more.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — South Kingstown's Union Fire Department stayed busy early Thursday morning, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida dumped nearly 10 inches of rainfall on the town. The department received about 30 calls for help throughout the night, Chief Steven Pinch said.
The first calls came in around 3 a.m., Pinch said, and continued throughout the overnight hours. Issues included pole fires, flooded basements, drivers trapped on flooded streets and alarms.
"Despite being a volunteer department, our members are highly trained to deal with a variety of responses including those relating to the severe weather that we saw earlier today," Pinch said. "I commend our members who worked through the night to answer the needs of our residents, and wish everyone well as they deal with the aftermath of this very serious storm."
