South Kingstown Police Nab Suspected Car Thief

Residents reported the car stolen on May 1.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI—Police on Wednesday charged a prisoner at the Adult Correctional Institutions in connection with a May 1 car theft in South Kingstown. William "Bill" Wise, 36, of no permanent address, is being at the ACI for violating his bail. (He was previously arrested in April in South Kingstown and again on May 6 in Narragansett for an unrelated offense.) Police charged him with Larceny over $1,500 (Auto Theft) and Vandalism (Malicious Injury To Property).

Police found the stolen car near a local business. The car had been vandalized. According to police, detectives developed information that led to Wise who was known to them due to previous contacts. He was also reported near the scene of the crime before the car was stolen, police allege.

Wise is due in court May 23.
