State Lawyer Missed Appeal Deadline: News Sources
WJAR-TV and WPRI-TV are reporting the state Health and Human Services lawyer missed a deadline, and Rhode Island could owe millions.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island could owe the nursing homes millions of dollars, due to a lawyer's failure to file a timely appeal of a decision about Medicaid rates, WJAR-TV news and WPRI-TV news are reporting. According to court papers, the state had initially won administrative hearing decisions involving Medicaid reimbursement rates for 59 nursing homes. But the Superior Court reversed those decisions and found in favor of the nursing homes. Rhode Island could have appealed, but the lawyer failed to file in time. According to the news reports, the state Health and Human Services department has now asked the Superior Court for extra time.
