This Weekend: Stargazing, Beer Brewing and Food Trucks

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Get star struck at the Frosty Drew Observatory's Public Stargazing Night (61 Park Ln., Charlestown), this and every Friday night at 6 p.m. Be sure to subscribe to the Frost Drew Observatory mailing list or follow them on Twitter (@FrostyDrewOBSY) to receive status updates about our public stargazing program. This is a free event, however donations are greatly appreciated.

Something's Brewing: The Rhode Island Brew Fest Summer event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at Ninigret Park in Charlestown. This one-day beer tasting festival is designed to promote the appreciation of craft beer and part of the proceeds will go to benefit the Rhode Island Brewers Guild. The event features two – 3-hour sessions from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m., welcoming 44 local and regional craft breweries sampling over 150 beers. Beer lovers will also enjoy live music, food trucks and other vendors. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.ribrewfest.com.

Food and Tunes on the Green: From 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, the South Kingstown Parks & Recreation Dept. will host a community event featuring a concert on the Village Green (1058 Kingstown Rd., Peace Dale) and food trucks, including Pizza By Fire, Eddie's BBQ, Go-Spresso, Buddy's Hot Dogs and Clam Jammers. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, grab a bite to eat and enjoy an evening of outdoor entertainment!

Did you know that Perseid meteors travel 37 miles per second? Neither did I! Despite their insanely fast rate of speed, you should still be able to spot them this Sunday (Monday, too!) - the peak viewing nights for the shower that will continue through Aug. 24.
