RIDEM has reported that mosquitoes in South Kingstown have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). It is important to take precautions against mosquito-borne illnesses like EEE. Whether you’re participating in sports leagues, visiting public parks, hiking, biking, or enjoying a picnic, please follow these guidelines to help reduce the risk:

Precautionary Measures:

1. Wear Protective Clothing: When outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, wear long sleeves, pants, and socks.
2. Use Bug Spray: Apply insect repellent to exposed skin and clothing. (do not use on babies)
3. Avoid Peak Mosquito Hours: Whenever possible, minimize outdoor activities during peak mosquito activity, typically around sunrise and sunset.
4. Check Your Surroundings: After visiting parks, trails, or open spaces, inspect your clothing, gear, and equipment for mosquitoes.
5. Maintain Outdoor Spaces: Ensure your yards and gathering spots are free from standing water, where mosquitoes breed.
