A 25-year-old West Warwick man was charged with driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed into Spa Mosaic , sparking the fire.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI—Twenty-eight stylists are out of a job, a small business has been turned to a pile of ashes and a 25-year-old West Warwick man is responsible for igniting the blaze that destroyed Spa Mosaic in South County Commons after he was drunk and rammed into the building early Sunday, according to police.

Richard Owens, 25, was charged with driving under the influence, first offense and is due to appear in court on March 31 after being released on $10,000 personal recognizance.

Police said Owens was hospitalized for minor injuries caused by his crashing into the building.

First arriving firefighters came upon Owens' 2004 Toyota Highlander against the side of the building as flames rapidly spread, eventually turning the entire structure into a fireball.

Union Fire District Acting Chief Steve Pinch told reporters on Sunday that the entire building was engulfed not long after the fire began and the roof collapsed within 15 minutes.
