10-Year-Old Charged with Simple Assault

Newport police charged a 10-year-old Newport boy with simple assault for allegedly assaulting another boy for kissing his sister on Monday.

Police said the boy was interviewed Tuesday after school and admitted to committing the assault.

According to a police report, the boy told police that he heard from several people than an 11-year-old boy was telling people that he kissed his sister.

The juvenile suspect approached the 11-year-old and asked if he was telling people about the kiss. The 11-year-old said yes, which “made [the suspect] more angry and he admitted to assaulting [the victim] and admitted that he knew it was wrong,” the police report stated.

The juvenile was released to the custody of a guardian and is due to appear in Family Court on Dec. 3.
