2 More Men Arrested In Connection To Newport Shooting
Newport police charge two more people in connection to a shooting on Jade Way that sent one person to the hospital.
NEWPORT, RI — Newport police arrested two more people in connection to a shooting in the city earlier this month.
Kenneth Jenkins, 24, of Middletown, was arrested Wednesday after officers got a warrant to search his home. Police said they searched Jenkins' home because the investigation revealed he tried to dispose of one of the guns used in the shooting on July 5 on Jade Way. The shooting left one person hospitalized, but they were expected to survive their injuries, police said.
During the search, officers found a 9 mm handgun used in the shooting, according to police.

Jenkins was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a large-capacity, assault with intent to commit a felony, compounding or concealing a felony, and providing false information to secure a firearm.
The third person was arrested Friday. Newport police identified him as Marc Washington, of Portsmouth.

Newport and Portsmouth police got a warrant to search Washington's home and car. According to Newport police, Portsmouth officers tried to pull Washington over, but he sped away on West Main Road.
Because Washington was driving recklessly, officers chose not to chase him, police said. Instead, officers searched the area and found him a short time later in Middletown.
Police said Washington was arrested after the search of his home and vehicle. He was charged with fleeing a motor vehicle stop, possession of cocaine, conspiracy, compounding or concealing a felony, assault with intent to commit specified felonies, possession of a firearm by certain persons prohibited, and license or permit required for carrying a pistol.
The two arrests followed the initial arrest of Johnny Escobar, 24, of Middletown, after the shooting. Escobar was charged with was charged with possession of firearms by certain persons prohibited, assault with intent to commit specified felonies, license or permit required for carrying a pistol, and firing in a compact area.
"The Newport Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors of the city," Lt. Joseph Carroll said. "Violence of any kind, especially gun violence, will not be tolerated, and all instances of gun violence will be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible will face significant criminal charges."
