2 Newport Men Arrested On Crack Cocaine Charges
Newport police say one of the men was also caught with a gun he legally was not allowed to own.
NEWPORT, RI — Two Newport men were arrested after police said they were caught with crack cocaine. Newport police said they also seized a gun from one of the men.
On Thursday, Newport officers arrested Tyquan Mitchell, 24, and Gerald McNeill, 62. Mitchell was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence and possession of a high capacity feeding device. McNeill was charged with maintaining a narcotics nuisance and possession of crack cocaine.
Over the past several months, Newport police have been investigating street level crack cocaine dealing in the city. Police said they received complaints from neighbors about drug activity at an apartment on Broadway.

Following the investigation, detectives learned McNeill and Mitchell were involved in drug dealing, police said.
Officers then searched two apartments — one on Broadway and another on Third Street. Police said they seized crack cocaine, cash, and drug paraphernalia at the Broadway apartment and crack cocaine with an illegal and magazine at the Third Street address.

Mitchell was arraigned in Second Division District Court and was ordered held on $40,000 surety bail. McNeill was arraigned in Second Division District Court and was released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
