Disorderly NY Man Arrested at Newport Hotel

Police tried to coax the man back to his room but faced an uphill battle.

NEWPORT, RI—A Brooklyn, N.Y., man was charged with disorderly conduct early Thursday morning after he became extremely disruptive at the Hyatt hotel on Defenders Row.

Police said Samuel S. Jo, 24, of 1258 Delmar Loop, Brooklyn, was lying on the ground crying and yelling in the lobby near the elevator when police arrived at around 2;20 a.m.

Police said Jo allegedly came to the lobby twice during the night, “each time yelling, swearing and threatening to throw chairs,” according to a police report.

Police said Jo was extremely intoxicated and had trouble standing up. Officers told him he had to spend the night in his room and stay there.

Finally, police convinced Jo to go back to his room, and two officers and a hotel security officer escorted him up the elevator and back to his door.

At the door, Jo reportedly initially refused to enter, but finally went inside, slamming the door behind him.

As police began to walk away, Jo “violently” opened the door, police said, and charged the officers.

Jo was then arrested and taken into custody.

He was held overnight at police headquarters for arraignment later on Thursday morning.
