
Five things to know for this week in Newport.
- Empire Tea and Coffee is planning to open a third location on Bellevue by Spring 2014, according to their Facebook page. The new location will be discussed at the zoning meeting on Monday at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers at Newport City Hall. Read the full agenda here.
- Calling hours for Sharon Gerlach, 58 of Middletown will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Gerlach died after she was struck by a pick-up truck on Bellevue Avenue.
- The Revolving Door Restaurant, located at 509 Thames St., opened its doors for the first time last week! Drop in and say hello!
- Historic District Commission (HDC) will meet Tuesday for its regular monthly meeting. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers at Newport City Hall. The meeting previously scheduled for Jan. 21, 2014, was cancelled due to weather.
- The first meeting for the teen book club will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Newport Public Library. Read more here.
