Get Active with Newport Recreation Programs in January
The Newport Recreation Department has winter programs for both children and adults.

NEWPORT, RI—The Newport Recreation Department has several programs for children and adults starting in January, offering residents a chance to start the new year on a good foot.
For children, the department is organizing indoor soccer and football. For adults, there’s yoga and walking.

Indoor Soccer: Registrations are still being accepted for our Indoor Soccer program run in conjunction with UK International. All sessions are held at The Hut on Sunday afternoons and include skill development. All divisions will begin January 10th and end February 28th and are open to all ability levels. Age groups are subject to change based on registrations. Must be 4 prior to January 1, 2016.
Divisions include: Pee Wee – boys and girls ages 4-5, beginner K 1:00 – 1:45

Rookies – boys and girls grades 1-2 and exp K 1:45 – 2:45
Intermediates – boys and girls grades 3-5 2:45 – 3:45

Indoor Football: Will you be the next Tom Brady or ‘Gronk’? Indoor Football registrations are now being accepted for boys and girls in grades 5 – 8. Instruction in passing, running, receiving, blitzing and calling your own plays! Games will be played on Thursday evenings at 6:00-m. Limited enrollment. League runs mid-Jan to mid-March. Adult Yoga Yoga instruction will continue with local yoga enthusiast, Coleen Curran, as your instructor. Coleen Curran, RYT 200, has been sharing her love of yoga with others for more than a decade. Her practice combines mindful breath work with body awareness and conscious movement. Her favorite quote about yoga is, “Yoga is a practice, not a perfect. Anyone can benefit from the practice of yoga; flexibility has nothing to do with it, unless your goal is to be on the cover of Yoga Journal. ;-)
Classes will resume Tuesday January 5th at 5:15 pm, classes will be held each Tuesday in The Hut, 35 Golden Hill Street, Newport. Try your first class for FREE! Pay only a $5 drop in fee for any additional classes. Coleen has been a certified instructor for years teaching in North Carolina. We are so fortunate to have her join our Newport Recreation Team to bring fitness to adults of all ability levels.

Adult Walking: Beginning on January 4th , the gym at the Hut will be open Monday through Friday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm for adult walking. This open gym time is designed to offer individuals the ability to exercise during those cold winter months in a safe, warm environment. This is a drop in program available to all adults.
