NEWPORT, RI — A teen was arrested Wednesday after Newport police said the juvenile shot a BB gun, forcing Rogers High School to be placed on lockdown.

Around 11:10 a.m., police were called to Rogers High School for a report of gunshots being fired in the parking lot. The school was immediately placed under lockdown, and a large police presence came to the school to investigate.

According to police, the investigation revealed the gunshots came from a BB gun and identified a juvenile as the suspect.

Police said no one was injured, and there is no threat to the school community. According to police, the juvenile did not target anyone. Instead, the juvenile was showing off that the BB gun worked, police said.

The suspect is facing several charges, according to police.
