A 56-year-old Newport man will appear in city Municipal Court on Dec. 7 after he allegedly refused to pay a $5.80 cab fare after getting a ride to Newport Hospital Sunday night.Police said Steven Bruce Cox, of 19 Chapel St., Apt. 514, took a taxi to the hospital at around 6:15 p.m. and his credit card was declined when the driver tried to collect payment for the fare.The driver told police that Cox "refused to provide another means of payment," according to a police report and Cox later refused to cooperate with police who approached him inside the emergency room waiting room.As a result, Cox was issued the court summons.
