Man Has Died After Oct. 30 Water Rescue Near The Cliff Walk

The Warwick man died last week, police said.

NEWPORT, RI —The Warwick man rescued from waters near the Cliff Walk on Oct. 30 has died, Newport police said.

Police Lt. Frank Rosa said Richard A. Maisano, 52 of Warwick, RI died "sometime last week." He did not have the cause of death. No additional information is available.

The firefighters had found him the water near Shepard Avenue. According to fire Capt. Paul Faerber, a witness called 911 at 12:33 p.m. and reported the person had jumped. He was not moving. Rescue 2 and Engine 5 made it to the scene in three minutes and started a "full water rescue," he said. The patient was still alive, so firefighters sounded a second alarm for more assistance. Medics revived and stabilized the patient on the way to Newport Hospital. He was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital.
