Medical Helicopter Called For Woman Hurt In Fall On Rocks
Police said the woman, 69, broke her ankle when she fell on rocks on Ocean Avenue.

NEWPORT, RI—Police said a woman broke her ankle when she fell on the rocks on Ocean Avenue. The accident happened Sunday around 5:36 p.m. near Harrison Avenue. A witness said she was standing in the sand near the water and slipped on a small rock when she tried to turn away from the water. He scrambled down the rocks to help and called 911.
The Newport Fire medics said her ankle was broken. They stopped the bleeding with a tourniquet. Firefighters carried her up to the rescue where they continued medical care until the helicopter arrived. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
Police do not know her condition as of Monday.
