Newport Hiring Entry Level Police Officers

NEWPORT, RI — Newport is looking to add new recruits to the city's police force.

Applications to join the Newport Police Department as an entry level police officer are being accepted through Sept. 3.

With the oldest community policing program in the state, Newport police officers have a chance to make a difference on a daily basis while being a part of a dynamic, internationally known community, city officials said.

Police officer recruits earn a stipend of $1,000 per week while attending the Rhode Island Municipal Training Academy. Permanent police officers can earn between $67,488 and $83,334 including holiday pay and clothing allowance. Pay scales increase with appointment to specialty positions or rank promotions.

All those interested in becoming a Newport police officer can fill out an application by visiting www.PoliceApp.com. Applicants must be at least 21 as of Sept. 3, 2024, and be a high school graduate or possess a GED/equivalent.

Entry level officer candidates should be available to complete a physical fitness assessment and written examination conducted by Fit2ServeRI.com.
