Newport Hospital Ranked 3 out of 5 Stars by Patients

The hospital received 3 out of 5 possible stars in a national survey and lands in the middle of the pack in Rhode Island.

Newport Hospital received three out of a possible five stars in a federal patient survey of hospitals across the country.

Patients at about 5,000 hospitals across the country ranked their experiences Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, which was conducted Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of 2014. The results were released this month.

Leading the pack in Rhode Island was South County Hospital. Its rankings were based the 45 percent of of the 1,785 surveys that were distributed to patients and were filled out. It was the only hospital to get a five-star rating.

Newport Hospital’s ranking was based on 611 surveys of which 34 percent responded.

Poor scores can result lower reimbursement rates from Medicare under the government’s value-based purchasing program, according to the survey.
