Newport Man Buys Winning Lottery Ticket at Fifth Ward Liquors

NEWPORT, RI—One lucky Newport man who asked to remain nameless just won $20,000 after buying a “$1,000,000 Scratch” instant ticket from Fifth Ward Liquors recently.

The man told the Rhode Island Lottery Commission when he came to their Cranston headquarters to cash the winning ticket that “he’s going to have a ’very good Christmas.”

The commission said in a news release that the man had won $500 once before and was excited beyond belief to win $20,000.

The ticket was bought during his weekly routine, the commission said, and the money will be used for holiday shopping.

As of Dec. 14, the “$1,000,000 Scratch” instant ticket game has one $1m prize and 13 $20,000 prizes remaining.
