Newport Man Wins Lottery, Plans to Open Business with Winnings
His first ticket was a dud. So was his second and third. On his fourth, he won a few dollars. Then came his fifth ticket -- jackpot.

NEWPORT, RI-Fred Humphrey of Newport just won $35,000 from the Rhode Island Lottery.
Now, he wants to make that money grow by opening a juice bar.
Humphrey won the money playing the Patriots Instant Ticket game.

His first ticket, bought from the 7-Eleven on Memorial Boulevard, was a loser. So was his second and third. On his fourth, he won a few dollars. It was his fifth ticket that he scratched off the grand price.
Humphrey claimed the prize today and told staff at the Rhode Island Lottery Commission in Cranston that he plans to open the juice bar with his winnings and has already developed a business plan.

In fact, he said, the lottery win now gives him the “financial ability to move forward,” he said.
Humphrey will be entering his losing tickets in the Patriots Replay Promotion, which offers prize drawings that include season tickets, game trips and more.
