Newport Police: Five Sent To Hospital After Crash Monday: Updated
A crash at One Mile Corner Monday afternoon sent five people to the hospital. Earlier, a Portsmouth man was arrested with marijuana baggies.

NEWPORT, RI -- Five people went to the hospital Monday after a crash at One Mile Corner. According to fire Capt. Michael Ferreira, two cars were involved. The accident happened at 2:23 p.m. Their condition was not known.
According to police Lt. Frank Rosa, the injured people complained about pain, but did not appear seriously hurt. The two cars collided when one, traveling north on Broadway, tried to make a left turn onto Admiral Kalbfus Road and crossed in front of the other, which was traveling south and in the intersection. As of Tuesday, neither driver had been cited.
Earlier Monday, a Portsmouth man was arrested with marijuana baggies. Joel J. Garcia, 24, was pulled over on Connell Highway near Maple Avenue at 1:34 a.m. He was charged with a felony (Manufacturing, Possession, Delivering Schedule I/II).

Cassandra A. Duncan, 51, of Newport, was arrested at 7:07 p.m. at the Connell Highway Walmart and charged with shoplifting.

Russell E. Carter, 69, of Bristol, was arrested at 8:15 a.m. at the rear of the Bellevue Gardens parking lot. He was charged with vandalism. Police said he scratched a woman's car with his key on Nov. 8 at 11:03 a.m. because she had parked in a reserved spot.
Kassee D. Joyner, 38, of Newport, was arrested at 6:25 p.m. at the Connell Highway Dunkin' Donuts on an arrest warrant from Portsmouth for a domestic assault. She also had an outstanding court warrant.
