Newport Police, CRU Café Holiday Coat Drive Off To Strong Start

As of Monday, more than 40 brand-new children's coats have been donated to the coat drive, according to Newport police.

NEWPORT, RI — It appears several Newport residents have joined in the holiday giving spirit a little early this season.

For a third straight year, Newport police and CRU Café Newport are partnering to hold their annual coat drive. As of Monday, more than 40 brand-new children’s coats have been donated to the coat drive, according to Newport police.

For this year's drive, participants can donate new children's coats for ages 1-to-17 to CRU Café at 1 Casino Terrace until Nov. 22. Coats can also be dropped off in the lobby of the Newport Police Department.

Over the last two years, police and the restaurant were able to donate hundreds of coats to local nonprofit organizations in Newport, the department said. This year, police said the coats will be donated to Newport Public Schools.
